Take careful note, Pay Attention to Changes, We've Moved!on, the GPS coordinates are a few "seconds" off from our past Gentry Group Camp site; that's because we moved on to someplace new.

This year 2018 our Field Day activities are planned for what I'm calling, Cell Tower Flats. This is located in the Apache-Sitgraves National Forest. General directions from Mesa/Tempe areas, take AZ-87 to Payson to AZ-260. Turn east on 260 from Payson towards Forest Lakes, continue thru Forest Lakes about 3 miles to the "Black Canyon Lake" turn-off on right; now going south [right] on Mogollon Rim Road [FR-300 or The 300 Road], continue about 1/2 mile, looking for the first 'maintained' road to the 'Left', turn Left [east], continue going straight, past the 'Cell Tower Road' on the left about 1/8 mile. Look for tail signs to the MARCA Field Day Site on the LEFT. There is a 'good' dirt trail [OK for motor homes] that winds to our 'site'.

The Site is perhaps more suitable for us to "'circle wagons' & tents & vehicles". There are many tall trees suitable for all our antennas. Since this will be our first time at this site, setup will be a bit more challenging. Several things may be go slower than past years such as Station Location which relates to antenna setup [which goes where and between which trees]. And our camping arrangement, parking, and food preparation.

MARCA will be operating as a class 2A field day station. Class 2A allows 2 regular stations plus a GOTA station, vhf station, 6 meter station, and satellite station. We will operate phone, cw and digital (psk and others). There will be a selection of radio types, K3, KX3, ICOM, Kenwood, .... analog, digital, and SDRs.

Equipment setup will start on Friday afternoon (June 22nd) and finish on Saturday morning (June 24th).

Don Aldridge is the official CW "copier" of the ARRL Bulletin. All interested in participating in this 30 minute activity are Welcome. Don will post the time of this event at the Visitors table.

The actual FD operations begins at 11:00 am Saturday, June 23rd, and continues for a 24 hour period, 11:00 am Sunday June 24th.

After the operating period ends we will tear down and be ready to hit the road back to the “cool” valley mid Sunday afternoon.

There will be a Visitor Information table with schedule of events, guest visitor book, Amateur Radio information, and MARCA information.

A training class with an interesting hands-on project is being planned. The project is open to all attendees. The class is Saturday and time will be announced and posted at the Visitor Information table.  Duration is planned to be about 90 minutes.

A MARCA sponsored BBQ is planned for Saturday night. (bbq, hot-dogs with the “fixins”, beans, chips and soda). We also are planning on a large stack of pancakes, sausages, and eggs on both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Typically, Sunday lunch is sandwiches and left overs, immediately after tear down activities. You should provide all of your other meals, snacks, drinks, water, etc. Friday evening after setup [typically about dusk], those not exhausted, will make a trip into Forest Lakes for the Friday Night Fish Fry [or whatever else is on the menu].

There is plenty of camping space in and around the trees, so bring your tent, trailer, motor home, sleeping bags and your normal “camping” equipment.

If roughing it isn't your style, there is a small motel at Forest Lakes, which is close by. Also, a large group of the FD participants typically visit a local restaurant for a Friday night all-you-can-eat fish fry.

All Hams, those interested in becoming a Ham, family, and friends are welcome. If you would like to participate, please email or contact one of the committee members (listed below) with the number of people in your party, the number of hams and your approximate arrival time. this helps us plan for Food and of course radio operator scheduling. Also, let us know if you are interested in bringing a rig to use or share or other equipment. Other equipment might be headphones, your favourite key or paddle, coax with PL259s etc. This year, the club has sufficient deep cycle 12 volt batteries to operate all Field Day stations during contest period.

Join us for the entire field day event on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, or just come up for the Saturday operations and Saturday evening bbq.
